Choosing Furniture For Babies And Toddlers

2010
12.31

Today, the available selection of furniture for children is innovative and unique and goes far beyond the basic beds and dressers that have filled children’s rooms in the past. When you decorate your child’s room, consider his personality and his interests as you choose the best pieces. If possible, allow your child to help pick out the childrens furniture he will have in his room.

First, decide on a theme or color scheme for decorating. Beds and other furnishings for children can be found to match a number of designs. Some beds are even available as race cars, fire trucks, or princess castles. You may opt for a bed that fits the theme you’ve chosen or you can buy a simple bed and match the room’s design with a children’s bedding set in a similar theme or color.

To ensure a good night’s sleep for both you and your little one, choose a bed and bedding set that your child likes. Also make sure the bed is comfortable, sturdy, and appropriately sized. Small children who have just graduated from a crib or cot may feel safer in a small bed that is low to the floor. Optional bed rails are a good idea until your little one gets used to sleeping in her new room.

A dresser or small chest of drawers is typically a useful piece of children’s furniture for storing clothing and accessories. Look for a dresser that is sturdy and made of a quality material like wood. Drawers that sit low to the ground are best for young children who may try to climb on the furniture and a model that is not easy to tip over will be safer. Many dressers can be found in a matching set of furniture for your child’s bedroom, including the bed and often end tables.

Children usually have a large collection of books. Find a short bookcase in a colorful design to hold his treasured books, as well as other toys and figures. A desk or small table with chairs can provide a good, solid surface for your child to play and work on. Child-sized chairs and surfaces are great for art activities, homework, or playing with puzzles. Many tables and desks are designed around themes that may fit your child’s bedroom decor, like primary colored animals or soft, pastel flowers.

Every child’s bedroom needs plenty of sturdy storage for toys. Todays toy boxes are just as varied and unique as children’s beds. Deep, wooden toy bins are perfect for storing large toys, while toy boxes with multiple bins of various sizes are good for smaller toys. Some toy boxes offer shelved storage as well for toys like puzzles or to display a favorite collection of cars or horses. Find a toy box that will make it simple for your child to clean his room and to find a particular toy after it is put away.

Consider your child and his activity level when you purchase furniture. Children often climb, so kids furniture [http://www.monkeyshine.co.uk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYCAT&catid=64] that is low to the ground will minimize injuries. Many children can be rough on furniture as well. Look for quality built furniture designed specifically for children to stand up to a child’s wear and tear. Most importantly, decorate your child’s room with furniture he likes.

Does Your Dog Bite? How to Protect Your Dog and Yourself from Liability

2010
12.31

MuttShack Foundation for Animal Foster and Rescue, claim that dogs bite more than 4.7 million people every year in the United States.

The blame could be the dog’s, the owner’s, or the victim’s. But the one who invariably pays, is the owner. The owner of the dog becomes responsible for paying for the medical bills, time lost from work as well as pain and suffering. The one who suffers most, is the dog that is abandoned in a shelter or disposed of.

Dog owners should assume more than their share of the responsibility for protecting people and other animals from their dogs, and also assume the responsibility to protect their dogs from people. Kids will run up to a dog screaming in delight and frighten the dog. A dog in his excitement to greet someone may jump up and scratch him or her. A passer-by may approach a dog aggressively or provoke him. Neighborhood kids may let the dogs out just to have some fun.

There is no way to guarantee that your dog will never bite someone. But you can significantly reduce the risk:

o Spay or neuter your dog. This important and routine procedure will reduce your dog’s desire to roam and fight with other dogs, making safe confinement an easier task. Spayed or neutered dogs are much less likely to bite.

o Socialize your dog. Introduce your dog to many different types of people and situations so that he or she is not nervous or frightened under normal social circumstances.

o Train your dog. Accompanying your dog to a training class is an excellent way to socialize him and to learn proper training techniques. Training your dog is a family matter. Every member of your household should learn the training techniques and participate in your dog’s education. Never send your dog away to be trained; only you can teach your dog how to behave in your home. Note that training classes are a great investment even for experienced dog caregivers.

o Be alert with your dog around children. Rambunctious play may startle your dog, and he may react by snapping or biting. Neighborhood children may be attracted to your dog, so make sure you have a child-proof lock on your gate and there is no way for little hands to get through the fence.

o Teach your dog appropriate behavior. Never teach your dog to chase after or attack others, even in fun. Your dog can’t always understand the difference between play and real-life situations. Set appropriate limits for your dog’s behavior.

Don’t wait for an accident.

The first time he exhibits dangerous behavior toward any person, seek professional help from your veterinarian, an animal behaviorist, or a qualified dog trainer. Dangerous behavior toward other animals may eventually lead to dangerous behavior toward people, and is also a reason to seek professional help.

o Be a responsible dog owner. License your dog as required by law, and provide regular veterinary care, including rabies vaccinations. For everyone’s safety, don’t allow your dog to roam alone. Make your dog a member of your family. Dogs who spend a great deal of time alone in the backyard or tied on a chain often become dangerous. Dogs who are well socialized and supervised are much less likely to bite.

o Stay on the safe side. If you don’t know how your dog will react to a new situation, be cautious. If your dog may panic in crowds, leave him at home. If your dog overreacts to visitors or delivery or service personnel, keep him in another room. Work with professionals to help your dog become accustomed to these and other situations. Until you are confident of his behavior, however, avoid stressful settings.

I thought you said your dog doesn’t bite? “That’s not my dog” … says Peter Sellers.

Seriously, if your dog bites someone, act responsibly; take these steps to mitigate the harm:

o Confine your dog immediately and check on the victim’s condition. If necessary, seek medical help.

o Provide the victim with important information, such as the date of your dog’s last rabies vaccination.

o You should cooperate fully with the animal control official responsible for acquiring information about your dog. If your dog must be quarantined for any length of time, ask whether he may be confined within your home or at your veterinarian’s hospital. Strictly follow quarantine requirements for your dog.

o Seek professional help to prevent your dog from biting again. Consult with your veterinarian, who may refer you to an animal behaviorist or a dog trainer. Your community animal care and control agency or humane society may also offer helpful services.

If you have to let your dog go, don’t drop him off at a shelter, where he will only be given a few days to live. Take the time to find him a new family. To do this there is a support and training network called MuttShack, at http://www.Muttshack.org, who will teach you how to re-home your pet.

o If your dog’s dangerous behavior cannot be controlled, and you have to make the painful decision to give him up, do not give him to someone else without carefully evaluating that person’s ability to protect your dog and prevent him from biting. Because you know your dog is dangerous, you may be held liable for any damage he does even when he is given to someone else.

o Never give your dog to someone who wants a dangerous dog. “Mean” dogs are often forced to live miserable, isolated lives, and become even more likely to attack someone in the future. If you must give up your dog due to dangerous behavior, consult with your veterinarian and with your local animal care and control agency or humane society about your options. Be safe, be responsible and most importantly, teach your dog to be a good canine citizen.

o Your dog lives to make you happy. If he understands what you need from him, he will make you proud.

Widen Thinking On Plans To Improve Children’s Learning

2010
12.29

Parents are being urged to think about their homes as learning environments in light of new government plans to help improve the education of children both in and out of school.

The call has been made by one of the UK’s leading suppliers of children’s furniture in a bid to help parents look at wider factors which contribute towards effective learning.

While the government is focusing on how the parents and extended families have a significant role to play in encouraging children to learn, Aspace is keen to widen the debate to include the importance of the environment in which they learn.

The company’s managing director Paul Cunningham thinks the government has not given enough consideration to the peripheral issues which make a significant contribution to the way children learn.

“There’s no doubt about it, the surroundings in which children learn are an important factor in how they learn,” said Mr Cunningham.

“While it is encouraging to see the government is taking proactive steps to help families think about how they can help their children, they haven’t addressed where they learn in the home.

“Even if you put technology issues – such as proliferation of TVs, DVDs, MP3 players and games consoles – to one side, the home environments for many children can often be awash with unintentional distractions and barriers to learning.

“And this is where a little lateral thought about what constitutes a good home learning environment could contribute an enormous amount to helping potentially millions of children in the UK having better all-round learning experiences.

“We just want to raise the point because we feel it is important that it does become part of the government’s agenda for driving up standards of children’s education.”

The ethos of Mr Cunningham’s company, which sells kids furniture directly to the public via its website http://www.aspaceuk.com and also through its direct mail catalogues, encourages parents to think about the environments they create through the purchases they make.

“Parents don’t realise just how much the furniture they buy sets the tone for how their children use the space in their own rooms,” he said.

“More so than ever before children’s bedrooms are multifunctional in their usage because they are places where they sleep, play, socialise and study.

“Although the parents don’t often recognise it in these terms, kids furniture is both fundamental and pivotal in setting the tempo for how their children behave and react in doing all the things they do in their room.

“And getting the balance right so it is conducive to all these purposes is a hard one and that is why getting the theme of the room and the furniture which reflects them is so important – especially as it may be the only dedicated place in the house where a child has the space to learn.”

The comments by Mr Cunningham reflect the changes he has seen in the industry since the company started five years ago. In that time the company has thrived after spotting a gap in the market to supply furniture which sits firmly between the cheap functional ranges which are available in retail stores and specialist products which are often out of the price range of most families.

It now has a multimillion pound turnover and being in the mid ground has enabled Aspace to source products which are well thought out both in terms of the ergonomic design and the impact they have in determining the atmosphere of a room.

Mr Cunningham argues that good quality kids furniture is not expensive and in a lot of cases it can be extremely competitively priced compared with what is often considered to be the bland and uninspiring bog-standard ranges on offer at large retail outlets.

“There is growing demand for good, well-made products which are well designed to cater for the variety of functions and activities in a child’s bedroom,” he said.

“Coordination is key to this to ensure all the pieces of furniture in the room complement one another so they provide the right functionality so they can be a place to maximise the opportunities of sleep, play and work.”

Mr Cunningham’s remarks come as the government has finished consulting on plans to help parents get involved in their children’s learning as part of its drive to ensure that every child gets the best possible start in life.

The government is pumping £9 million into helping local authorities to fund the development of fresh ideas on how to connect with parents and help them to help their children.

Children’s Minister Beverley Hughes said she knows that parents are central to children’s well-being and that children’s experiences in their early years have a major impact on later life.

She added that it is vital that children have a sound basis on which to learn and develop, as well as enjoying time with their parents and that the money the government is making available will see innovative approaches in supporting and encouraging parents to really get involved in their children’s development.

Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Bowling Equipment and Accessories

2010
12.29

Bowling is one of the most popular sporting activities in the country. In fact, over 50 million Americans hit the lanes on a regular basis, and the trend is spreading to other parts of the world. No matter what your skill level, you can enjoy bowling.

Even if you are brand new to bowling, you should always use the proper equipment whenever you bowl. Here are the most important accessories to remember:

Bowling Ball

Obviously, the bowling ball is an important piece of equipment to a bowler. All bowling balls are not created equal, though. Before purchasing a bowling ball, be sure to determine what ball weight you are comfortable with, as well as the size of the ball holes you will need. And don’t forget that some balls are designed for right-handers and some are made for lefties.

Bowling balls are classified according to skill level as well: beginner, intermediate and advanced. There are also bowling balls that are made just for kids. If you don’t want to buy your bowling ball, you can always rent or borrow one at the bowling alley.

Bowling Shoes

Another accessory required for bowing is bowling shoes. Bowling shoes are unlike any other type of shoe, and each shoe has its own purpose: one bowling shoe is made to improve sliding, and the other bowling shoe helps you brake. You can rent or borrow bowling shoes from the bowling alley, but don’t forget to ask for the correct size. You don’t want your bowling shoes to be too roomy or too tight. You won’t be able to bowl very well if your bowling shoes don’t fit.

Bowling Shirts

Bowling shirts are a popular accessory and can improve comfort while you bowl. Professional bowlers wear special bowling shirts that have collars. You don’t need a professional quality bowling shirt to play a leisurely game of bowling, but it is important that you wear something comfortable. Any shirt with a collar should work fine, as long as you can move freely and it doesn’t distract your from your game.

Bowling Gloves

Many bowlers like to wear bowling gloves because they help them get a better grip on the bowling ball. Having a nice secure grip on the ball can help improve both your accuracy and power, so you may want to consider wearing bowling gloves. They also help support your wrist, providing a nice and smooth delivery.

Bowling Towels

A bowling towel is handy to have around to wipe any oily residue from your bowling ball. You can use a regular towel or purchase a special bowling towel that you will find at the pro shop in the bowling alley.

Other accessories you might want to look into include bowling bags and bowling ball cleaners or polishers. For personal use, you may want to have your own face towels or wristbands. These types of accessories are not required, but can be a personal preference for many bowlers.

Getting Your Childcare License Increases Your Cash Flow

2010
12.28

Many people feel that getting a daycare or childcare license is not necessary for childcare providers. Legally you only need a license if you are going to care for children from more than one family. It’s true that going through the process of obtaining your daycare license can be time consuming and sometimes stressful. However, the truth is that obtaining your childcare license can actually help you make more money! There are three ways that a daycare license increases your cash flow. They are: 1. Charging higher rates and bringing in new clients; 2. Income from food programs; and 3. Grant money.

Let’s take a closer look at item #1. Charging higher rates and bringing in new clients. Parents searching for childcare look at both quality of care and cost of care when making a decision. Believe it or not, childcare rates can vary greatly even in the same geographical location. So it pays for parents to shop around. However, most parents are willing to pay a little more for childcare if they know the quality of care will be outstanding. Obtaining your childcare license shows your dedication to top quality care. Also, many parents aren’t willing to place their child in an unlicensed childcare because there are no inspections done and no one is monitoring the childcare provider. So having your license can actually help your bring in more business!

The second way a daycare license helps increase cash flow is from income through the food programs. Food programs are systems set up to help educate childcare providers on serving healthy snacks and lunches to the children they care for. As a provider you must submit a monthly menu of what you serve for monitoring. It takes a little more work, but you are actually reimbursed a portion of the cost for each meal and snack you serve! These reimbursements aren’t huge but they certainly help defray the cost of feeding multiple children several times a day. These food programs are only available to licensed providers and they can certainly increase your cash flow!

Finally, getting your daycare license allows you to apply for the many grants that are available for home daycare providers. There are a lot of grants out there from local, state and federal government as well as from private sources. Some grants stipulate how the money is to be used; for example for play equipment, books, or facility improvements. Other grants are more open-ended and allow you to use the funds however they are needed for your childcare business. These grant monies are like pennies from Heaven and can really help financially! But these grants are only available to licensed childcare providers!

As you can see, getting your childcare license can really help boost your business financially. Even though the licensing process may be cumbersome, it can really “pay off” in the end!

Can You Be Your Own Internet Marketing Specialist?

2010
12.28

The role of an internet marketing specialist is to drive traffic

to a website and to assist with the improvement of conversion

rates – converting website visitors to buyers. Some individuals

are good at driving traffic and others are good at creating web

copy that closes sales. In order to be a full-service internet

marketing specialist, you really have to have the skill to do

both because enormous amounts of traffic doesn’t matter a bit if

that traffic does not result in revenue.

Even so, different people have different talents and one person’s

gifts may complement another’s. So, if you have strong skills in

one area and not the other, you may need to work with an internet

marketing specialist whose strengths compensate for your

weaknesses and vice versa. Sometimes an internet marketing team

achieves much more than any internet marketing specialist could

do alone.

Specific tasks that an internet marketing specialist or team of

internet marketers engage in to accomplish the two main purposes

of internet marketing – driving traffic and closing sales -

include:

1. Brainstorming

2. Market research

3. Identification of target markets and niche markets

4. Competitor analysis

5. Development of products and services

6. Creation of a unique selling proposition

7. Keyword research

8. Identification, analysis and selection of marketing

channels

9. Budgeting

10. Strategic planning and setting of milestones

11. Creation of marketing materials including sales copy

12. Website development

13. Administration of the internet marketing plan

14. Analysis of the effectiveness of the marketing program

15. Continual strengthening and improvement of the marketing

plan and marketing program

Effectively addressing all of these tasks that are necessary for

productive internet marketing really requires quite a vast skill

set. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses in various areas of

internet marketing. It is ideal if you have an internet marketing

team made up of individuals that are internet marketing

specialists in all of these areas; however, reality is not always

ideal. Because it is rare for any one individual to be strong in

each of these areas most people need professional assistance from

an internet marketing specialist with one or more of the internet

marketing tasks.

If you work with an internet marketing specialist or a team of

internet marketers, it is vital that everyone on the team

communicates clearly and effectively. With clear communication

the results from specific internet marketing tasks can be

integrated to create a strong, effective internet marketing

program that produces significant results in regard to driving

traffic and generating revenues.

In order to determine whether or not you are capable of being

your own internet marketing expert rather than contracting your

internet marketing tasks to an internet marketing specialist or

an internet marketing firm, do an honest analysis of your skills

as they relate to the fifteen internet marketing tasks mentioned

previously. In reviewing them, you are sure to find some that you

feel confident about and some that cause uncertainty. If you are

not comfortable with your own internet marketing knowledge and

skills, you may choose to hire an internet marketing specialist

to complete the tasks you are uneasy about, or you may choose to

pursue training or education to enhance your knowledge of

internet marketing and strengthen your own skills.

With desire, drive, time and perseverance, just about anyone can

become an internet marketing specialist. To be an effective

internet marketing specialist you must be willing to learn from

others as well as learning from your own mistakes. As you gain

experience in internet marketing, you will naturally develop

expertise and as time marches on you will undoubtedly feel more

comfortable with tasks that seem complex at first and you will

definitely gain self-confidence as you experience the positive

effects of your internet marketing efforts.

How to Choose an Internet Marketing Company

2010
12.28

– Internet Marketing Determines Web Success –

Internet marketing is essential to the success of web sites. You can have a professional looking website but what good can it do if internet users are not able to find it when they need your products and services? That is where an internet marketing campaign comes into play.

“Your website has to magically appear before buyers when they need products and services.”

Internet marketing is similar to designing websites- it does not require much experience to do a good job, just good knowledge and a keen eye for details. It is fundamentally important for a good internet marketer to constantly update himself weekly, if not monthly, of online markets. There are many ways to market your website .

– Find A Competent and Reliable Internet Marketer –

Justify the costs of hiring an Internet Marketer – First of all, getting an internet marketer is not essential for every website. If your website is a business website or a website which you want to generate revenue from, it is good to seek a competent internet marketer to work on your website. The costs spent on your website for internet marketing has to be justified and often, they are justified by having more revenue and traffic to your web site.

Potential customers have to know that there are no guarrantees in SEO. Since everything is fundamentally based on search engines, SEO work is at the mercy of major search engines like Google. Many SEO companies tried to secure customers with guarrantees that they cannot fulfil, resulting in lawsuits or customers getting burned for hiring their SEO services.

– What an Internet Marketer can offer –

In short, an Internet Marketer oversees that your website is built properly for visibility and promoted with the best dollar spent on your internet marketing campaign. It is no good having a website and not appearing in internet searches. Your website has to magically appear before buyers when they need products and services. Internet Marketers deploy search engine optimisation techniques to make your website visible and targetted to internet users.

Internet marketing requires research and analysis effort for individual website, followed by optimisation of website. Hundreds of hours may be spent on each website, depending on the size of your targetted market. You are essentially paying for the amount of effort involved, effectiveness of your internet marketer and daily sales tracking of your website.

How to choose an Internet Marketer- Internet marketing requires constant updating of skills and knowledge. One crude way to test if your internet marketer is a genuine or fake- Ask your internet marketer about recent events that happened in his field. If he cannot answer that, he must have a genuinely good reason to back himself as a good internet marketer! At times, it is easy to fall prey into the hands of bad internet marketing companies as happened in US and other parts of the world.

It is also important for you to feel comfortable with the amount of money you are spending on getting your site popular before committing yourself to a internet marketing campaign. Internet marketing campaigns typically last a few months and requires monthly tune-ups to your website. Include the costs of an internet marketing campaign when doing your company’s advertising budget.

Czech Nymph Fly Fishing – 80% of Trout Food is Found on the River Bed Or Just Off of It

2010
12.27

The Essential Fly Fishing Technique

Czech nymph fly fishing was introduced to the UK during the 1990 World Championships. The Czech team beat the UK International teams on the Welsh River Dee. The Czech team caught grayling in numbers from places that were thought impossibly fast or deep previously by traditional fly fishermen. This sent shock-waves through the world of competition angling. The technique is today considered to be pretty much a standard – an essential part of every grayling anglers armoury and great for trout and other fish.

Firstly, let’s take a look at the flies, the Czech nymph has many, many variations, but all are based upon one simple design, utilising a heavily-leaded hook. They are intended to be fished very deep, in fast water, weight & a slim profile are important.

Czech Nymph Fly Fishing Tackle

A 5 or 6-weight rod will be sufficient, 9′ to 10′ is ideal for better control of the flies. Leader should be of about 9′ in length, NOT tapered as they are counter-productive as tapered leader won’t sink quickly enough. Just use something like 6lb down to the top dropper, with 4lb from there down. Use two 5-6″ droppers, one about 18″ above the point fly, the other about 18″ above that. The true Czech method is to fish the heaviest nymph on the top dropper, so that it helps carry the other flies down to the correct level. To help ensure rapid sinking of the flies, degrease the leader. You will be looking for takes on the end of the fly line, so depending on your eyesight you may wish to use some sort of bite indicator.

Czech Nymph Fly Fishing Tactics

  • The water will be fast flowing water, normally considered to not be able to fish on using a fly, probably 18″ – 3′ deep. You’ll want to get your flies as near to the bottom as possible. Do not fish with more than about 3-4′ of fly-line outside the tip ring. This is difficult to do, as the fly fisherman’s natural tendency is to shoot a bit of line.
  • This is extremely short range fishing, fish will be close to your rod! Do not cast conventionally, there is not enough line & the nymphs are far too heavy – the nymphs that provide the casting weight. Use a flicking action to throw the nymphs upstream at an angle of about 30 degrees. Done correctly, the ‘flick cast’ will extend the leader so that the nymphs lie in a straight line upstream. They will immediately start to sink rapidly as the current brings the flies back down towards you.
  • To stay in touch with the flies, don’t retrieve any line, just track round with the rod, raising & lowering the tip as appropriate. Watch your indicator very closely! Any hesitation, draw, stutter, check – strike it immediately.
  • Because of the fast nature of the water grayling and trout will have little chance to closely examine the fly and hit quickly. Fan cast the water ahead of you and, if no action, take a pace or two upstream & repeat. This is fast fishing, each cast is fished out in 5-10 seconds and you’re straight into the next one, a lightweight rod helps the weary arms. Often it is often useful to let the flies come down below you and allow them to fish for a few moments as they come round the bend and onto ‘the dangle’.
  • Keep the rod tip above the indicator & steadily ‘lean’ downstream, dropping the tip as you do so. This can be a particularly effective tactic, taking one or two more fish out of water that has already been worked.

Obviously, with this technique you do not need to restrict yourself to Czech nymphs. The key is to use heavily-weighted flies, so gold-head / bead head flies, heavy tungsten nymphs will do just as well. ‘Matching the hatch’ is not a priority with this fishing! This is an active searching method and, as such, technique is more important than specific pattern.

College Scholarship – FREE!

2010
12.27

You must be dreaming about winning a college scholarship or receiving a sports or academic scholarship from a list of possible contributors. Actually none of the above. Parents or students can actually create their own college scholarship FREE with a little bit of thinking outside of the norm.

College scholarships are plentiful, yes, but it’s the acquiring of them, that is the obstacle. Why not listen to a different approach to acquiring enough capital to put you or your child through college. If the costs of everyday life weren’t enough already, reaching for additional funds to place your child or yourself through college is nothing more than a dream for most of us. We simply cannot afford college without trying to obtain college scholarships.

First, ask yourself, just exactly what is a college scholarship, grant, or paid tuition? A college scholarship is simply someone else paying for a recipient’s college expenses in order to reduce the amount the recipient has to pay for a college education.

College scholarships can be the difference in a student being able to enroll into college. Often times, the college that has accepted a student has done so strictly on the basis of the college scholarship, grant, or pre-paid tuition. Student loans are your worst-case scenario when searching for college funding. This is money you have to pay back, and that’s nothing more than buying on credit. Would you think going to college on a credit card was a smart investment?

Usually the mere thought of college scholarships doesn’t come to mind until months or even weeks before considering the reality of your child nearing their high school graduation. How will you tell them, I wish we could send you to college, but without a college scholarship we simply can’t afford it.

Remember what was said about what a college scholarship actually is? It’s someone else paying the bill. Sure, if we could afford it, we would definitely send our kids to college. Well, with all that’s already on your financial plate, mortgage, rent, credit card debt, insurance, car payment, loans and daily living expenses how could you generate more income without having to ask for it or by taking on a third job? Bottom-line you don’t have any more time to apply yourself after all that you are currently committed to.

College scholarships are searched for online by the thousands and nearly every site immediately wants you to give them your name, address, phone number and your whole life’s history, before they will expose you to the available list of college scholarship programs available. Do you know why? They want to bombard you with financial options. Options that ultimately lead you to financing your college expense yourself.

If you could afford to finance your child’s college expenses you wouldn’t be here reading this article, right? So, let’s turn this whole idea of college scholarships around and think logically for a moment. Is there an alternative to college scholarship money?

College scholarships should by all means, be pursued, but let’s not hang all of our efforts on receiving a college scholarship in determining whether or not you or your child goes to college. The real pursuit should be, you pursuing additional funds that you can control. Making more money without trying to spend more time than you have, is not only possible, but very eye opening when you give yourself the opportunity to see how many families are using the power of the internet, along with great tools to generate the much needed additional income. Before you write this suggestion off, it would be wise to at least read over this very current and popular tool. It’s an honest way to apply a few minutes of your time for a handsome financial reward.

In the time that you usually spend watching a single television show, you could be generating a few hundred dollars. And if you apply yourself consistently each week, we’re talking quite a nest egg in your pocket. Once you and your college bound student work together to generate this income, you are actually giving them a very valuable lesson in life. Creating your own college scholarship is possible and the savings from not pursuing student loans is a double win.One thing is for certain; it beats delivering pizzas for a few measly dollars and risking personal injury in the process. The choice is yours, but it’s a real and honest alternative to relying solely on a college scholarship.

Illness and other medical expenses can strike anyone at any point in life. In order to purchase a health insurance policy, you need to contact a health insurance company. It is an organization that provides health insurance policies to individuals in order to protect them and their families against any loss.

Health insurance companies are governed by regulatory bodies. These bodies make sure that these companies do not follow unethical methods or practices.

Several types of health insurance policies are provided by health insurance companies. These include the following:

Hence, it is very important to understand what is covered under a particular policy. Also consider what is excluded in the policy by a particular health insurance company.

These days, health insurance companies operate via web portals. This has made it really easy for a consumer to purchase health insurance policy. All one requires to do is to visit one of these web portals via sitting at home comfortably. This saves time and money of the consumer. Health insurance companies also provide quotes online. These quotes consist information on the premium stated for a particular health insurance cover by a health insurance company. One can easily collect these quotes and compare them to find out the most affordable health insurance premium available for consumers. This is the best way to get the most affordable premium on a health insurance cover.

If you are seriously considering to contact a health insurance company to purchase a health insurance policy, here are some points to consider before making the final decision.

a) Stable networks:

Only go for a health insurance company with large, stable network. This will assure you the security of your money and the best cover and services.

b) Customer services:

This is the best thing to consider. Visit a company that has an excellent customer service.

c) Claims paying ability:

5 Critical Characteristics To Demand From Your Blogging Software.. Does Yours Do These?

2010
12.26

With so many blogging software options available today, it can be a difficult task to decide which blogging software you should use. Each blogging software solution will have its own unique set of advantages and disadvantages, so you should determine your needs first, and then decide which blog software solution will work best for you. Whatever you determine your needs are, your solution should, at least, have the characteristics described below.

1. Your Blogging Software Should Be Easy to Install

There are many blogging software programs available today for many different platforms. Most of them are good and will provide much of the needed functionality a person needs to blog on their website. However, if the blog software isn’t easy to install, and if you are not a programmer, you will have some trouble getting your blog started.

Even the easiest of programs to install, will be challenging to someone who is just barely familiar with using a computer, but if the installation is easy enough, you can pay a programmer or even a web designer a small amount of money to install your blog for you.

Blog software is easy to install if you only need to perform the following steps: 1) upload the software to the webserver 2) fill in your specific information, into a form, such as: the URL of the blog, the database information, the username and password to administer the blog, and an email address. 3) click the install button, and your blog gets installed. 4) log into your blog program, and personalize the blog for your own website.

2. It Should Be Easy for You to Change the Look and Feel of Your Blog

Your blog software programmed should be set up so that it is easy to change the look and feel of your blog through a quick menu selection. Most blogging software comes with several pre-defined templates that will allow you to change the look of your blog very quickly and easily.

The blogging software should also be set up so that it is easy to add templates. Usually it is as simple as uploading the new template into the template folder of the blog software – if it is more difficult than that, you should find a different blog program.

3. Your Blogging Software Should Automatically Ping Blog Servers

One of the best features of blogging software, is it’s ability to inform other websites that your blog has been updated. This process is called ‘pinging’. Pinging is an important feature because it tells the world that you have new content on your blog and they should come and check it out. Pinging is a powerful way of getting exposure and visibility to your blog relatively quickly. Search engines love to find new content so they have services that specifically search the web for new content. When you ‘ping’ one of these services, you are telling it to check out the new content on your blog.

Some of the better blogging programs available will have an interface that will let you easily choose what pinging services you can ping about the new content on your blog. Most blog programs include some of the more popular services as a standard feature in your blog software. If you want to ping more services, sometimes you will have to go into the program and change the code. A competent programmer should be able to do this for you in a few hours.

4. Your Blog Software Should Have Search-Engine Friendly URL’s

Most of the better blogging software programs that are out there today store their entries in a database. This means that many of the pages are dependent upon parameters being passed to them before they can display the pages. For web browsers, the way that parameters are passed are usually indicated by characters such as ‘?’ and ‘&’. Some blogging software requires that several parameters get passed before a single page, or blog entry, gets loaded.

Search engines usually don’t index url’s with a lot of parameters passed to them (lots of “&” in the URL), because the search engines can sometimes choke on these types of URLs. The better blogging software programs have an option to automatically ‘convert’ these URLs to more ’search engine friendly’ URLs that don’t ’scare’ the search engines away. These converted URLs will allow the search engines to index your entire site, and all of your post entries, which makes it easier for visitors to find your blog.

5. It Should Be Easy to Add New Features to Your Blog Software

As you become more comfortable and knowledgeable about blogging, you will eventually find the need to add new features and functions to your blogging software. If your software is designed to be ‘plug and play’, it should be very easy to add features to your software. All it takes is uploading a new feature ‘module’ to your ‘modules’ directory. Some blog scripts require a lot of code changes in order to add new features, and that can be a huge task for someone who isn’t a programmer. Sometimes it’s a huge task for someone who is a programmer.

If your blog software isn’t designed to have easy plug-in add-ons, chances are the software isn’t designed for easily adding on new features. If this is the case, you should choose another blogging software program.

If you select a blogging solution that has the included characteristics listed above, you will be well on your way to using a system that will grow with you as your needs grow, and is designed to bring more traffic to your website. The next step is to see what programs are available for you to use as your blogging solution. Some of them are free and some of them cost money.

Fear of Public Speaking: How To Get Over It

2010
12.26

A fear of public speaking is something that many people suffer through during their career. Some people try to avoid speaking in public at all costs but sometimes it’s just not possible especially if it’s part of your job.

Plus, there is no reason to want to avoid public speaking because it really doesn’t have to be something that is scary. It can actually be quite fun.

And being good at it can help your career, too.

I can’t think of a better way to climb the career ladder than by being someone who is able to stand up in front of your peers and managers and speak intelligently and confidently.

An employee who can do this will get noticed and for the right reasons.

Let’s focus on the fear of public speaking in a work setting and specifically how you can become a confident and effective speaker.

Here’s how I went from being someone who needed to read off cue cards word for word when speaking in public to someone who can speak comfortably in front of a group with little to no notes (and enjoys doing it!):

1. I stopped trying to memorize everything.

Instead, I learned the material I was covering and became less reliant on notes. I stopped writing out speeches and presentations word for word and trying to memorize it and started using short bulleted statements, only listing the main points and simply verbally expanding on each point when I glanced at my notes.

By not having to memorize everything, I eliminated the chance I was going to forget something.

2. I stopped worrying about speaking publicly.

I used to worry a lot about public speaking. When I was a kid I used to worry about the yearly poetry contest my school had where we each had to memorize a poem and recite it in front of our class. Here is an example of where I HAD to memorize my “presentation.” I stopped pretending that reciting a poem in front of my class was the end of the world and decided to have fun with it. Twice I got to compete in front of the school after winning my class competition.

The moral of the story?

Don’t create a stressful situation for no reason. It’s normal to feel apprehension but don’t turn it into a “do or die” situation when it isn’t.

3. I let my personality come out.

Whenever possible I like to inject a bit of humor when I’m speaking publicly (within reason of course) and always try to sound enthusiastic. I just try to deliver my presentation as if I’m speaking with friends in a social setting.

In other words, I just try to act normally and convince myself that presenting isn’t a big deal. Because it isn’t.

4. I started to enjoy public speaking!

Once I started to feel more comfortable speaking publicly, I started enjoying it. I also noticed that when I was in school, the more I enjoyed presenting the better I did. My fear of public speaking disappeared.

Once in the work world, I looked forward to opportunities to speak publicly and got more and more opportunities to do so. If you decide that you hate it, of course you’ll have a fear of public speaking.

Plus, I started getting opportunities from my manager to present in front of senior managers and pretty soon I found myself on a first name basis with these same managers who previously didn’t know who I was.

In my experience, the first step in conquering a fear of public speaking is to loosen up and relax.

Then start to learn your material rather than memorizing it or feeling like you need to write out word for word scripts of everything you are going to say.

Look for opportunities to offer to speak publicly about things you enjoy so that when the time comes to present something out of necessity (ie. work-related presentations) you will already have some experience under your belt.

Public speaking is difficult but looking forward to it rather than dreading it goes a long way to becoming better at it.

Private Dog Parks: Can Be The Safe Choice

2010
12.26

With an increasing number of serious incidents being reported at dog parks, I want to introduce the safe alternative that a well-run private dog park can provide. You will find that a properly designed and managed private dog park is a dramatically different experience than what you have read about or have witnessed in public parks. A privately run dog park can properly screen, staff and enforce park regulations. We do caution you that even with the information you will gain from this article, please know that any dog park is not regulated, so we encourage everyone to do their homework before visiting any dog park to ensure it is right for you and your dog.

The current trend is that community and homeowner associations are responding to community demand by setting aside a small plot of their land for a public dog park. Unfortunately these unmanaged and unregulated fenced areas often turn to that of neighbor confrontation, injury and horror, even with the best of intending groups and dog owners. Let’s face it, without any oversight or enforcement, incidents are going to occur. Because I recognized the dangers in dog parks to the point that I would not take my dogs to one, I was motivated to devise the complex recipe for a safe off-leash dog park. Therefore; I conducted an in-depth investigation of many existing dog parks to establish the precise formula needed to create an off-leash haven.

I visited many, talked with visiting dog owners and observed many dog parks, both private and public. From my investigative travels and with my inherent understanding of dogs, I developed the complex operating matrix for a safe, off-leash dog park. Since that design work, we have successfully opened the first of our many private dog parks that thousands of qualifying dogs and their owners have already enjoyed. Our safety performance at the Royal Paws Dog Park & Doggie Day Camp facility speaks for itself with an impeccable safety performance and industry leading staffing ratio.

Benefits to your Dog with Off-Leash Exercise

The benefits to a dog at an off-leash dog park or any open area of land are immense. Unleashed running elevates heart rate, increases metabolism, improves gastrointestinal efficiency, and extends muscles and joints, all of which contributes to general overall fitness. It is known that maintaining such a healthy lifestyle for your loved dog will increase longevity and reduce risk of all associated conditions and diseases that obesity can cause. The experience for your dog in open field run is like no leashed exercise we can otherwise provide and the benefits will last a lifetime. When letting your dog run in an open field for exercise value, please consider that there are many risks to both you and your dog. You may be violating leash laws, the dog can track a scent or get lost, run into traffic or unwelcome neighborhood area, confront aggressive dogs or dangerous wildlife or foliage; which are all of the reasons as why I do not take my dogs to any open land without fences despite their excellent obedience.

In fenced area designated as a dog park, in addition to fitness improvement, your dog can enjoy benefits from the social interaction with the other dogs IF experienced without incident. The advantage for a dog that is well exercised and socialized benefit the dog, the owner and the community ONLY IF they have somehow avoided traumatic incident. Well exercised and socialized dogs are much less likely to contribute to neighborhood nuisances like chronic barking or showing aggression to other dogs.

If public parks could operate as well-run private dog park do, these benefits would be maintained. Unfortunately, many dog parks are not continuously regulated nor do they have the resources or knowledge to accurately screen the dogs; therefore, odds are that incidents will occur. Incidents like your dog being attacked by another dog or even being bullied by another dog can cause regression in social skills, cause behavioral issues, invoke fear aggression or cause physical injury or death. Following any incident at a public park, without a safe and regulated choice of private dog park that can best create positive experiences to overcome the impact of the incident, your dog may never physically or emotionally recover from the past trauma. The likelihood of good experiences for your dog in a well-managed private dog park is the reason that many loved dog owners everywhere chose private over non-regulated public parks.

Premise of a Safe Dog Park – It’s Private

The advantages a private dog park has over any public dog park is the ability to secure more favorable, larger parcels of land, improved grounds maintenance, set dog health requirements, enforceable park rules, screening of appropriate tempered dogs and third party intervention. Beware though and do your homework about any private dog park you intend to visit. Just because they can do all of the above does not mean that they do! While it is integral that the private dog park has the ability to control all of the above to make visits to a well-managed private dog park enjoyable, the most important to me are the health and temperament screening and ability of park staff to intervene.

If you have read the actual details in the recent headline grabbing horror stories of incidents in dog parks, they almost always are a result from a dog being in the park that should not be or from uneducated/erroneous decisions made by visiting dog owners. Both of these should not occur if your private dog park is consistent in managing and operating the facility for the safety and enjoyment of all. With private dog parks operating as a business, financial success is always a consideration. So turning away visiting dogs equates to lost revenue, so unless the park is focused exclusively on maintaining a safe environment for all, a private park that is short-term financially driven can pose the same risks that a public park does.

The third party oversight ability of park staff to intervene is required to eliminate personality clashes and biased evaluation of situations and/or dog’s behavior. So when the experienced screener determines the dog lacks the temperament so he/she can play with others, it is the park staff’s responsibility to deal with the disappointed dog owner. Same intervention by park staff goes in the event a visiting dog owner does not abide by park rules or a dog plays too rough or violations of any other park code of behavior. You can imagine these discussions are difficult; however, by park staff entertaining such discussions it eliminates any personal intervention by visiting dog owners.

Telling a dog owner that their dog is not allowed or can no longer come to the park until troublesome behavior is removed is always difficult. However, it is critical that the staff of the private dog park you are intending to visit has the proper screening system, the diligence to comply and financial ability to effectively turn away the revenue for dogs that do not appear to be capable of socially interacting at such level to keep the park safe for all.

As important to the screening is the park’s development and maintenance of expertly developed park rules. To the novice dog owner, many of the park rules appear to be too cumbersome and detailed. The reality is that each rule of a well-run dog park is well thought through and derived from merit by an expert in dog behavior. Compliance to all of the rules is key to the safe enjoyment of the park by all. For example, the toy aggression of a dog or rough play can within seconds turn into a dog fight even with the best of mannered & socialized dogs. Without such detailed rules and the full oversight to insure they are all followed, the private dog park could turn into mayhem.

Dog Park Management of Sizes and Breeds

For the safety of all, we highly recommend separating small dogs from large, excluding entrance to a few breeds, requiring males be neutered unless under strict command and requiring that dogs be at least four months old to enjoy the park. What we hear the most from small dog owners is that they want their small dogs to be able to play in the designated big dog area because “they like to play with big dogs”. Although the small dogs may have enjoyed past experiences playing with a large dog of neighbor or friend, the risk remain of physical injury to the small dogs if they are allowed in the same area as big dogs. It is my opinion each size should have designated areas to create safe play for all. Thus, we recommend that when investigating which dog park is right for you, this should be part of consistent operations.

Let me first say I do not believe in stereotyping any particular breed for temperament. However, due to instinctual drive levels, size and bite capacity, there are some breeds that I believe should be prohibited from entry to an off-leash park and some that should have elevated entrance criteria. Pit bulls, not specifically because of temperament but rather from jaw force/releasability should be forbidden from the off-leash dog park. Although we have met some of the sweetest and well-socialized pit bulls, we do not allow them to visit our parks because the risk is so high of severe injury to another dog if they were to bite.

Chow Chows are another breed that unless have a lifetime of scalability or coming in as a young dog, do we rarely let into the park. Any of the other “working breed” dogs, including terriers, due to their breed characteristics, prey drive, protection dog status and/or sheer size should go through elevated entrance criteria. These types of dogs must meet entrance-required temperament, in addition must demonstrate clear owner command. Upon meeting entrance criteria, they undergo frequent evaluations for continued social ability and owner command. All other dogs must pass dog socialization evaluation and demonstrate basic obedience.

Many Responsibilities of the Dog Owner

Even with the best of run private dog parks, the dog owners retain a high level of responsibility upon park entrance while be willing to withstand the occasional park staff directive. They must carefully watch their dog, abide by all park rules, maintain the obedience skills of the dog and know their dog well enough to predict their dog’s behavior. Knowing your dog’s mood, watching it’s posture and identifying or correcting any potential troublesome behaviors is critical so all can enjoy the park. Every dog will encounter occasions where they will meet another dog that they do not like or are uncomfortable around.

It is the best of private dog parks where entry requires command of your dog so that incidents of escalated aggression can be avoided when each dog owner carefully watches their dog and can command their dogs away from each and every situation. Incidents occur only when the dog owners are not vigilant in watching their dogs or do not understand their dog’s behavior and the slightest of uncomfortable encounters prolongs to escalate into a dogfight. Again, each dog owner should understand their dog’s postures, expressions and movement to be able to differentiate in off-leash situations when they are comfortable and when they are not. If the dog owner does not intuitively understand their dog, we recommend seeking the assistance of a professional dog trainer.

Safely Socializing Dogs Early Benefits Everyone

We believe that all dogs, when in receipt of proper health vaccination should be socialized in a safe environment to improve their ability throughout their life of all of the benefits an off-leash park can provide. Any puppy, following final adult vaccination booster should be introduced socially to other dogs, people, children and other distractions and a well-managed private dog park creates the perfect place. Puppies visiting a safe off-leash park will easily learn good behavior in the dog social structure and provide the dog owner the ability to enhance obedience training with distractions. Just as the benefits of teaching good manners to a dog early in their life are immense, so are the risks that behavior issues or dog aggression will occur in the event the early experiences are traumatic.

With puppies, we strongly encourage you thorough investigation on the park you are considering to take them to best create the opportunity for good experiences. We recommend you confirm that the park is well maintained, strictly managed and rules enforced. Taking the puppy to a private off-leash dog park will provide your dog a life-long of comfort around other dogs, people and children. However; even with the best of private dog parks, there are other distractions that you should have your puppy comfortable with, which is why we also recommend taking a puppy (when fully vaccinated) to busy shopping malls with diverse people and sounds, nature walks with children & bicycles and on-leash dog walking trails to learn on-leash manners.

Picking the Private Dog Park for You

While private dog parks are gaining in popularity because they may be the only choice for safe and enjoyable off-leash fun, enter with caution. If a dog park is “Private”, it is operated as a business entity, but this does not guarantee it is safe for you and your dog. It is our recommendation that with any place you intend to take your dog, you first tour the facility. Inspect the fence and the grounds, as well as talk with some of the dog owners visiting to learn about their safety record and staffing. After touring, talk with the park staff about what is required to visit. If you do not have to show paperwork confirming vaccinations or they do not meet your dog and determine social ability with other dogs, we would recommend that you know there may be risks. As with any place that you take your dog, insure you have great command of your dog and you are comfortable with the park layout and your dog’s social skills to lessen the chances of a possible incident with another dog.

Internet Marketing Strategies – Generating Maximum Customer Acquisition

2010
12.25

Marketing strategies are applicable to all types of investment, with an emphasis on Internet marketing. This is because the Internet has become a highly successful marketplace, filled with endless opportunities of creating each individual’s niche, while maximizing any profit that can be earned from it. However, to achieve this successful niche, individuals need to have effective marketing strategies that will help achieve their successful goal of earning more and staying there. Also, always keep in mind there are millions of websites in the world who are competing for success in the same marketing area as we are. To stay successful and to grow, Internet marketing businesses must each stay afloat amidst this tight competition on a continuous basis.

In order to create well-sound internet marketing strategies, we do not build it without a strong basis to develop it from. Internet marketing strategies need to be integrated with a corporation’s marketing objectives, policies, and tactics into a cohesive whole. Keep in mind that formulating internet marketing strategies need to effectively carry out the corporation’s mission, such as providing high-quality products or services at the lowest possible cost, and at the same time not sacrificing the profitability of the investment.

In a board of directors’ meeting, it was stated that the revenues, as well as the volume of sales made during the previous month was comparatively lower compared to the revenues and volume of sales made several months ago. This decrease was more than what was expected, and present statistics show that the decreasing trend might continue due to uncontrollable market conditions. Once the problem was not addressed, the revenue of the corporation would suffer, resulting to streamlining the corporate organization, which would affect most of the employees.

As a corporate executive, what can be done to contribute to solve the problem of the corporation? It is a serious responsibility to get the business back on track, as well as ensuring the employees that they still have their job. At this point, what we need is to formulate effective internet marketing strategies that will address the problem of decreasing revenue and sales volume of the corporation.

The object in mind is to keep focus on the purpose of internet marketing strategies — helping get more potential customers, more earnings out of sales that can be made, and declaring an Internet marketing career to be a successful one. Listed are tips on how these internet marketing strategies will affect an internet marketing business, with emphasis in a positive point of view.

Begin with what is available now, without spending a lot of extra money. What are the possible edges of the marketing product or business as a whole, compared to others? Does it stand out among other businesses with similar products? Being unique is one of the internet marketing strategies that will help get potential clients, eventually making the new business a success. Nothing will beat the expertise of developing a product, safely satisfying the needs of the target market.

Take the product to the internet, giving it a unique image over the web. Use the power of words and images in expressing what the new product offers to the public. Make the description of the product as simple as possible, yet straight to the point.

One of the keys to internet marketing success is the “click through” strategy, where a product’s attraction to the customer will cause them to click on the product’s new ad, getting them to “find and go to the product”. This new product that is being offered must be significant to what the customer is looking for, thus the use of online surveys will help determine the products that are “in” and “out”. The utilization of online surveys is one of the most important internet marketing strategies.

These are just a few of the internet marketing strategies that can be used for any new online business. Of course, there are still many internet marketing strategies that are available. Try to stay with the most basic ones at the beginning. All complex internet marketing strategies take their start from the basic, making basic internet marketing strategies just as effective as the complex ones.

Keep in mind the purpose of marketing — getting close or going beyond the return of investment within the least amount of time – is using the least financial spending possible at all times. These internet marketing strategies will help to achieve the purpose of marketing, as well as address any future problems that may be encountered along the internet marketing career. Such internet marketing strategies will serve as the main foundation of any marketing plan — it must contain definite actions that will be implemented, addressing the problem of the corporation. For instance, an individual may use the strategy of offering low-cost yet high quality products or services to attract more consumers or convince potential clients to patronize your new product. By using such strategy, there is a high chance that the business can be compensated for any previous losses, getting the online business onto a profitable level.

Bowling Tips That Everyone Can Benefit From

2010
12.24

Of all bowling tips I can share with you, the most important bowling tip of all is: practice! No matter how well you understand the game, no matter how excellent your bowling equipment is, you just are not going to get any better if you do not practice, practice, practice.

Another great bowling tip is to get a coach. It is best to get a trained coach, somebody who has helped others on their road to bowling greatness. Unfortunately, getting such a coach can cost a pretty penny… if you can find one in the first place.

So, if you cannot find somebody trained as a coach, find the next best thing – your mom, dad, friend, or neighbor, etc. Of course, you do, indeed, want someone who is a great bowler. At the very least, you want someone who is very interested in bowling – think of it this way, not all basketball referees are excellent basketball players, but they know what is going on the game.

In other words, even if friend cannot roll a strike every time, he or she can still help dissect your movements. Your friend may still be able to tell you what is wrong. Also, perhaps you know what you are doing wrong, and you end up overcorrecting yourself – your coach (even if it is just a friend) is going to be able to tell you that you have overcorrected or to tell you other information that you just cannot see or feel for yourself.

Besides these two major bowling tips – practice and don’t go at it alone – there are tons of bowling tips to adhere to. Very few bowling tips apply to all bowlers like these first two do. Someone who always gets a gutter balls is going to need different bowling tips that someone who cannot time his or her approach. Similarly, an amateur bowler is going to be helped by completely different bowling tips than a professional.

Nonetheless, here are a few more bowling tips:

· Stop using the house balls at the bowling alley – get yourself a custom bowling ball, or at least a bowling ball that fits your hand well. You are going to be able to use a different weight ball than you normally would, simply because it fits your hand better. Why not go heavier?

· Get your own bowling shoes – while this bowling tip is not quite as important as the abovementioned one, it can still help. Most certainly, you are going to feel better when you are wearing your own bowling shoes.

· When you have a question, ask it – never assume that you have learned all there is to know. Even the best bowlers, the professionals, can stand to take some advice. Never stop learning.

· Stretch – no, bowling is not a contact sport, but that most certainly does not mean that bowlers do not get injured. Stretching can help you prevent injuries. Also, making sure that you have a ball that properly fits will keep you safer, too. You may also decide to wear a wrist support.

· Keep that throwing are nice and loose.

· Think – bowling is not all in the wrist, it is in the head. Really think about your movements and y our delivery. Concentrate on which movements create which spins on the ball, etc.

· Finish close to the foul line – being with six inches of the foul line will help insure that you get the best release possible (of course, you never want to cross it!)

· Watch the professionals – watch them on TV, or watch some great bowlers at your local alley.

· Always keep your eye on the target – this does not necessarily mean you need to keep your eyes on the pins! Rather, look at the markers in the lane.

· Follow through!

I hope that these bowling tips have helped you. And I want to remind you of one of the absolute most important bowling tips of all – have fun! It is not worth bowling if you are no longer having fun. Do not let the pressure to win get in the way of your overall aim to have fun!

Movie Crazy

2010
12.24

Are you movie crazy? No, I don’t mean crazy for Harold Lloyd’s comedy Movie Crazy from 1932 about a young man with little or no acting ability, desperately trying to be in the movies. I mean, are you crazy for movies period? I must admit I’m a cracker for movies. So, all those who consider themselves movie crazy raise your hands. Yup, that’s almost everybody. Why are we movie crazy? Why do we live in a movie crazed society? Hey, what are movies anyway?

Movies are ideas and/or stories brought to an audience through emotion by sound and a sequence of seamless images. Thanks to Google Search.

How popular are movies? Well, the keyword “movies” boasts a mind boggling 1.1 billion and growing number of searches on Google’s search engine alone. And the keyword “movie trailers” has collected a whopping 127 million plus searches. Watching movie trailers on the internet has become a popular past time for many. I know my husband’s one of them. He loves to watch his movie trailers.

This past year alone has brought in an astonishing box office revenue of 29.2 billion dollars worldwide just for 2009. Movies are watched and made worldwide. The language gap has been dissolved due to the addition of subtitles. Now we can all share in the universal movie experience. As well as being universal, movies are made for everyone young and old. Why you can even see generations at most Disney or kid movie showings. There is something out there for everyone no matter what your age.

We celebrate movies and we celebrate the stars in our movies. We bring them into our homes by way of TV shows dedicated to stars like ET, ET Canada, Access Hollywood and TMZ to name a few. We grab supermarket tabloids like The National Enquirer and Star scanning the latest celebrity gossip and stuff them into our shopping carts when no one is looking.

We have Oscar parties like we do Superbowl parties and even bet or at least announce our opinions on who the winners of the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, MTV Awards, etc. will be. Then there’s the classic TV shows like ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’ that we turned on faithfully oohing and aahing over the content like it was fine wine. The show ran for over 10 years (March 1984 – September 1995). What a run! What a concept! We actually got to tag along and drool over the extravagant homes, lifestyles and dream vacations spots of the stars. Today, you can watch similar shows like MTV’s ‘Cribs’ and VH1’s ‘The Fabulous Life of….’

If you’re more of a home body you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home to see a movie. You can literally channel movies through your TV’s regular cable or on specialty movie channels like Thrill, The Movie Network, HBO, Movie Central, Showtime, Turner Classic Movies, etc. And that’s after you’ve clicked through the TV movies of the week, recorded movies on your PVR or sent your kids to the video store to rent one of this week’s new releases. Oh, and not to mention you can buy movies from your brick and mortar video store down the street or even online on eBay or Amazon.

How do we get our golden tickets to these grand palaces? We buy cereal boxes and cut out cardboard vouchers, we use our air miles points or exchange reward points to turn cash into movie tickets. We fill out contest forms in hopes to be chosen as the lucky few to attend pre-screenings to our favourite movies before they even hit theatres. We also line red carpets around the world and tune into celebrity interviews on our favourite daytime and night-time shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with David Letterman, Oprah and Regis & Kelly.

What beats the movie experience? Nothing. We cue up for our tickets, purchase our favourite goodies, grab the latest Famous or Tribute magazine for casual light reading before our movie (while devouring our real buttered popcorn or bag of liquorice). The lights go dim, the screen widens and the picture and sound arrive simultaneously. We anticipate the movie previews while watching the nuisance commercials and then there they are. Those big beautiful coming attractions in all their glory. We whisper yeas or nays or give a thumbs up to our pals seated beside us for the next movie adventure we’ll be planning. Then if we’re lucky, that is, the guys will get to hear the bellow of the THX sound effect that roars around the theatre. (Hey, guys you can hear it on youtube or download it as a free mp3 or ring tone). Then the wait is over. Whoopee! And the adventure begins…

Again, why are we movie crazy? Could it be because movies are inexpensive; a cheap date; or an economical family outing. Is it that the encounter can be even more enhanced through the Imax or 3-D experience. Or does it go deeper. A chance to escape the real world if only for a few hours. Movies evoke emotion whether it’s excitement, laughter, terror, sadness, inspiration, faith, love, etc. Maybe you’re on an unpredictable adventure, figuring out a mystery or watching a family deal with loss. Movie’s take us away; anywhere we want to go. Even the theatre itself is an experience as we’ve discovered. The lights, sound, feel, big screen, comfy oversized fabric chairs, convenient cup holders, popcorn and munchies from the snack stand, etc. The movie experience really touches on all our senses. What movies have stirred you emotionally lately?

The movies are one place where you can choose what you want to see and feel. If I want to be happy I’ll go see a light hearted comedy. If I want to be thrilled I’ll go see a thriller or horror. And if I want to entertain my little niece and nephew I’ll go see the latest animated movie, etc. Then there’s the rest of the genres that fill out the movie experience: action and adventure, crime and gangster, drama, epics/historical, musicals/dance, science-fiction, war, documentary, westerns, biopics, chick-flicks, detective and mystery, disaster, fantasy, film noir, guy films, melodramas/weepers, road films, romance, sports, supernatural, etc.

Movies bring people together. They are something to talk about at the watering hole at your 9 to 5 job, chat amongst your facebook friends or discuss in forums. We can talk about the worst movies we’ve seen or our all time favourites. We can quiz each other on movie trivia, quotes and songs. We can read or write reviews on movies, look up movie ratings and purchase books on movies. We can even get the latest Hollywood gossip sent to our email boxes or go online to peruse blogs such as Leonard Maltin’s Movie Crazy blog.

Is there any other advantage from movies other than the whole entertainment experience? Actually, there is. Many professional therapists are using movies to help people in crisis. There is a therapeutic movement using—you guessed it—movies. It’s called Cinema Therapy. Cinema therapy is used because it’s readily available (there’s a movie theatre in every city pretty much) and the subject matter of most films are familiar to everyone. It also enhances the rapport between both the client and the therapist. Who doesn’t want to talk movies.

Other benefits include the release of emotions such as when we laugh during a comedy our laughter releases stress, tension and/or pain. A tear jerker that makes us cry releases built-up/blocked emotions. How about movies that touch on relationships or parenting. These observations and/or lessons can bring us closer together with people, make us analyze our current situations/relationships or make us realize we’ve got work to do.

And if there’s one last thing that solidifies our movie crazy mentality it’s our want or longing to actually be in a movie and/or meet a movie star. Well, this just in—you can do both. Have you heard the term TV or movie extra? If you want a better than bird’s eye view of making of a movie and to encounter a movie star or two sign-up to be an extra. You’ll get paid, fed, be on set and maybe bump elbows with your favourite movie star.

Best Advice to Help You Save on Car Insurance

2010
12.23

You can save good money on your car insurance. What’s important, you can do it in such a way that the terms of insurance and the amount of a probable collision or comprehensive coverage are not affected at all. In most cases it’s the sum an insurance company wants to earn on its clients. Anyway, every consumer has the right to get a discount for this service and to spent money on you, your family, entertainments, purchasing some goods or upgrading of the same car.

Nobody likes to overpay 10-20% and even more for this or that staff. Just think what you could buy for this 20%!

Here are some hints to help you cut down expenses on car insurance:

1. Already at the time of buying a car familiarize with the list of most frequently-stolen cars available on the web. Insurance companies take into consideration such statistics. Don’t purchase such a “dainty for thieves” and an insurance policy won’t be a luxury for you.

2. Analyze the market before making choice. Compare prices and terms of different companies (for example, various online services give possibility to compare insurance rates of the nation’s top insurance companies.) It’s better to deal with direct agents who sell insurance directly to the consumers then with middlemen. The latter may charge their fees up to 15 % of the total cost. When you single out several most appropriate variants make sure those companies have a good reputation. You might also want to check with your state’s department of insurance to find out if a particular company has a high number of consumer complaints.

3. The model of your car can affect the expenses. No insurer will tell you that, unless you ask. The auto insurance companies have a special rating system for every car make and model. Most use a system which starts with the cost of the vehicle and then factors in safety and theft data. Cars are given a rating from 1 to 27, and the higher the number, the higher your premium. Look up your car’s relative risk with MSN Money’s comparison tool. If you’re buying a new car, ask your insurance company about the difference in premiums for cars you’re considering. Search online for the latest top 10 lists on the most expensive cars to insure, and the least.

4. Your credit report can affect whether a company wants to ensure you and on what terms. The fact is if you pay your bills in time they consider you to be a stable and responsible person. If you have some problems with it just wait a month and try to solve them before applying to an insurance company. Most insurers use something called an “insurance score” to assess your risk as a driver, and an insurance score places a heavier weighting on bill-paying consistency of a consumer.

5. Increasing your deductible can cut your premium. Deductible refers to the amount a car owner shares with the insurance company while making a claim. And since insurance is meant to cover the big stuff you can’t handle comfortably on your own (not the small things), having a higher deductible can make a lot of sense. In general, increasing your deductible from, say, $200 to $500 could reduce your premium by 15% to 30%.

6. The age and good driving experience can also cut down the cost of a policy. If several people have a legal permission to drive your car, your premium will be calculated on the basis of the youngest and most inexperienced driver.

7. If you are a safe driver, i.e. haven’t experienced traffic accidents, driving violations, drunk-driving convictions, etc. that will cause your insurance premiums to fall. If you do in fact have any of these, make sure to take care of them and hire an attorney if needed to get them off of your driving record.

8. If you don’t mind your car being repaired at the service station, pointed by the insurance company, it will decrease the price of insurance too. But there is a great chance that you will need to stand in a long queue to have your car repaired.

9. Sometimes insurance companies offer various discounts, for example when you change from a rival company, or prolong a contract with your insurer. Discounts are also available for “safe” drivers and for those who insure two or more objects (two cars, a house and a car, etc.)

10. One more variant which helps you to save on car insurance is to order a policy online. Insurance companies save much money on staff and office apartment providing such services, therefore are able to grant substantial discounts.

11. Installation of security and safety devices like car-alarm, tracking system, anti-lock brakes, automatic seat belts and airbags in your car serve dual purposes. They make your car less prone to theft and attract discounts from auto insurance companies.

12. Members of the American Automobile Association (AAA) save millions annually on their auto insurance as a group just by giving their membership information when buying their auto insurance. There are many other established professional associations you may be a part of and can enjoy discounts on your insurance plans.

13. Marriage can lower your car insurance rates. Married people are considered safer and more stable because of their new commitment and responsibilities, and this can translate into discounts. As a couple, you may qualify for reduced car insurance rates with the same coverage. You could also earn a multiple car discount if you combine both your cars on the same policy.
